The ABC looks to be in for a tough pay battle after management dismissed staff’s demand for a pay increase of 4.5 per cent a year over the next three years as "significantly out of step with what is happening in the external media environment”. Instead the ABC has offered 2 per cent a year, an amount the Community and Public Sector Union, which represents staff, argues is tantamount to a pay cut as it does not keep pace with inflation.
