Cloncurry to celebrate 90 years of pedal radio

Cloncurry will celebrate some of its rich history on Friday evening with a formal recognition of the 90th Anniversary of the first pedal radio message.

When Alfred Traeger invented the pedal-powered radio, he opened up a viable method of communication for Outback Australia, that complemented Flynn’s Aerial Medical Service, now the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The Aerial Medical Service began at Cloncurry in 1928 without radio and Traeger’s pedal powered invention changed all that.
