It’s known as the ”dump” button, the seven-second delay designed decades ago as the saviour of radio reputations and protector of the delicate ears of listeners. But these days, as Eddie McGuire learnt last week, the seven-second delay might just as well describe the brief time that elapses between spoken word and national scandal, between the onset of tired-brain syndrome (as self-diagnosed by Dr McGuire) and a Twitter eruption demanding your head on a block.
