2UE extends breakfast

Although the 2UE website still lists the John Stanley and Garry Linnell breakfast show as on air from 5:00 to 8:30 am, this morning they were still at the mic leading into the 9:00 am news.

The adjustment is permanent (or as permanent as anything can be in radio) given the mini ratings surge enjoyed by the two bald guys in GfK Survey 2.

Although the book shows them having a 4.1 share of the Sydney Breakfast market, which is traditionally measured between 5:30 – 9:00 am, the share of their actual shift 5:00 – 8:30 am is 4.6 (over the survey period ending April 12).

Who would’ve thought that by the second survey of 2014 and they’d be beating 2Day FM’s brekky?

The breakfast show’s 4.6 is the same as the station’s overall share and considerably better than the daytime shifts that follow. Mornings, Afternoons and Drive average a 2.7 share between them

But 2UE GM Chris Parker denies that the decision to extend the show to 9:00 was based on ratings. He told radioinfo, “It wasn’t a ratings led decision. It was more based on the feedback we were getting from the audience. The talkback callers were queuing up trying to get onto the program and we were shutting the thing down prematurely at 8:30. So now we’re letting them run through to nine o’clock so that they can continue to connect with that audience.”

Keep an eye out for Peter Saxon’s chat with John Stanley and Garry Linnell coming up soon on radioinfo.
