4TO goes and Triple M arrives in Townsville

When Triple M officially launches in Townsville on Monday the “TO” call sign that has been a part of Townsville for 87 years will finally disappear.

Southern Cross Austereo’s General Manager for Townsville Rob Aumend says “the coming together of Australia’s most recognisable radio brand and Townsville’s number 1 radio station creates an absolute powerhouse.”

Locally produced shows like Pricey for Breakfast, Chooky on Weekdays and Afternoons with Minty will continue to be heard along with the Greatest Hits from the 80’s to Now music format.

With over 35 Mango Seasons on air in Townsville, local radio hero Steve “Pricey” Price says: “This station has been part of this community for a long time and will continue to be for a long time.”

Kennedy Molloy with Mick Molloy and Jane Kennedy will be heard each weekday 4pm to 6pm on the drive home, as well as the Triple M NRL call from Thursday to Sunday during footy season.

When 4TO opened on 5 October 1931, few people in Townsville even owned a radio set. There had not been much point, with the nearest station located 600 miles away. Read more of the history of 4TO in our article from 2006.
