ABC Radio on Foxtel

The ABC has reached an agreement for its radio and tv services to be retransmitted on the Foxtel digital satellite and cable platform.

Available from early next year, the ABC service on Foxtel will include Triple J, Classic FM, Radio National, NewsRadio, DIG internet radio and some metropolitan and regional radio stations.

ABC Managing Director, Russell Balding, says the deal is part of a strategy to make ABC services available on all platforms.

“This agreement is an extremely positive outcome for the ABC, as it sees the growing subscription television sector as a primary element of its digital tv aspirations.

“The fact is you cannot hope to properly develop digital tv plans without participation in the Foxtel digital platform.”

Foxtel already has digital retransmission agreements with SBS and the Nine network, and is delighted the ABC had joined.

The ABC has separately secured agreement with Optus for satellite transponder capacity on the Optus C1 satellite, enabling retransmission of its digital tv and radio services on the Foxtel digital platform.
