ABC Reinstates Cadet Program

ABC chief, Russell Balding, has announced the reinstatement of the cadet journalism program, scrapped last year after Federal Budget funding cutbacks.

In an internal memo, Balding says: “I am also pleased to announce that, as part of the budget strategy approved yesterday, news and current affairs will be able to this year restore the cadet journalist program, though on a reduced scale, within the division’s existing funds.

“This is a terrific achievement, and a fine measure of astute fiscal management by news and current affairs.

“You will recall that due to funding shortfalls last year, the cadet journalist program had to be suspended.”

It is believed a single cadet will be appointed in each state and territory, with recruitment starting in October.
