ABC web site hits 10 million

From its beginning in 1995 with 6 pages of simple content, ABC Online has grown to a phenomenal 400,000 pages of high quality and innovative content covering a broad range of subjects across 20 genre gateways and for the first time 10 million accesses in a single week.

This milestone has been achieved by the public’s response to ABC Online’s comprehensive coverage of National Science Week events. The ABC’s dedicated Science website – The Lab, recorded 2.5 million page accesses during the week. In addition, there were significant increases across several other content areas including news, children’s and rural.

“It was only two years ago that ABC Online received 2.5 million accesses for the entire service. Now The Lab has achieved this total on its own contributing to the overall 10 million accesses” said Lynley Marshall, Director of New Media. “It is noteworthy that the ABC has achieved its online success without the support of ancillary services such as email or banking which have traditionally contributed to major audience increases on commercial sites.”
