Alan reminds Kyle who’s Number One

In a much promoted but ultimately short interview segment on Channel 7’s 6pm News, Alan Jones was asked by reporter Lee Jeloscek, “Do you think you could be the next Kyle Sandilands?”

To that he quipped, I never comment on my opposition but Kyle’s scrambling around out there with seven or eight in the ratings. But he’s a nice fellow and we wish him well.”

In the most recent GfK Survey, Alan Jones on 2GB returned a 17.1 share of the Sydney Breakfast audience against a 7.8 for Kyle and Jackie O on KIIS 1065.

Jones was a little more humble when asked about the incident where he told the audience at a private function that former PM Julia Gillard’s father died of shame because his daughter was such a liar.

“You don’t want to do anything that might hurt anyone’s feelings,” he said, “There is no defence. We haven’t had any discussion since then but I don’t bear any malice towards her at all and I certainly wish her well.”

Although the reporter was not 100% sure of his subject’s age – he reckons it’s around 74 – he asked Jones whether it was about time he retired.

“Age shouldn’t be a barrier,” says Jones “I never think of retirement.”
