Barry Keohane to leave Wave FM

Wave FM Content Director, and former Regional Content Director (NSW/VIC/SA) for ARN, Barry Keohane is leaving the station at the end of March.

Barry is well known in the Australian radio industry having held senior content positions with Southern Cross Austereo, ARN, and the ABC over his career. He has also worked extensively throughout Asia, including a 3 year role as Head of Content for Astro Broadcaster’s China operations.

One of the many highlights of Barry’s career is launching a new station to 16 million people in Guangzhou, China.

In addition to his fulltime work, Barry is passionate about the next generation of radio and audio content makers, and continues to coach and train students through his role as a Lecturer with the Australian Film, Television, and Radio School (AFTRS). Barry was also the Head Lecturer for the “Radio Content Management and Leadership Course” offered through AFTRS up to 2021 and sits on the programming committee for Radiodays Asia, with their next event in September this year.

“There is nothing a Content Director or Coach loves more than seeing someone achieve their goals, be successful, and be the best person they can be.  That’s what I love about the roles I’ve held, and that is what I want to focus more on in the future”.

So what’s next?

“Radio will always be in my blood, so it makes sense to get back into a fulltime radio job.  And that job will be focussing more on coaching and developing talent, and building strong content leaders of the future. But if it’s not radio, then I know a lot of organisations screaming out for people with the skills I can bring to a role”.

Looking to build skills around coaching and talent development, Barry obtained his MBA in 2018, studied leadership coaching and group facilitation in 2021, and most recently started his Graduate Certificate in Learning Design.

“I’m never one to sit still, so I might take a few weeks off and then get back to work. Whatever and wherever that might be”.

Barry finished with ARN on March 28. He can be contacted at [email protected] or via his Linkedin profile.
