Can two female hosts make a difference on Sydney radio?

Mix106.5’s bold new experiment has begun

It’s been working relatively well in Melbourne’s Mix 101.1 with Chrissie Swan and Jane Hall since they started a year ago as the first ever all-female breakfast team. So why not in Sydney with Sami Lukis and Yumi Stynes?

That’s a question that has confounded many a network PD over the years: if something works in Sydney, why not in Melbourne and vice versa? Of course, there are a thousand variables to consider, apart from the intercity curse, including the fact that the talent is different. The chemistry will not be the same.

Whatever the outcome, the show promises to provide a real point of difference with a unique perspective on the lifestyles of the 25-44 year old female target demographic of the network.

Their lives, however, are very different. Sami Lukis is out dating and looking to settle down while Yumi Stynes has two daughters and is recently married.

“We’re very different people with our own take on life but we feel like we’ve been friends for years,” says Yumi.

Sami tells us, “I think our upcoming interviews will really benefit from this new dynamic – being interviewed by two women has the potential to be a little disarming so hopefully our guests will really open up.”

If their first morning is anything to go by, the show is bright and bubbly with a very strong female skew, as much as the Grill Team is male. Even the music seems handpicked to convey female topics.
