After opening the application process so that anyone could apply, Claire Mooney has been named as triple j’s new Music Director. Claire follows in the mighty footsteps of Arnold Frolows and Richard Kingsmill.
Claire paid tribute to Richard last year when she was appointed Music Director for triple j Unearthed, saying:
“If I could dedicate this role to someone it would be you. I’m so honoured to keep your passion, legacy and impact for Australian music going.”
She comes to the role with eight years already at triple j, and was assistant music director for the youth station up until her Unearthed appointment. Prior to that she booked all the local artist and band interviews with SYN 90.7, including an EP role for Australian music show The Hoist.
Nick Findlay, Manager, Music Programming said:
“Claire lives and breathes new music and has an incredible passion for breaking Australian talent, which we saw time and time again in her recent role as Music Director during her tenure at Unearthed. As triple j’s new Music Director, she will lead the music that soundtracks the lives of young people in Australia well into the future.”
triple j Music Director, Claire Mooney, added:
“What a privilege it is to step into this new era of triple j as our first female Music Director. I feel so honoured and excited to continue the legacy that’s been built by my mentors. We are so lucky to have a station like triple j exist in this country: one that authentically celebrates music, art and culture, and reflects and soundtracks the lives of young people around the country. I’d like to think there is no place more obsessed with Australian music, and I can’t wait to help shape, support and champion the next generation of artists, alongside our passionate, hard-working triple j team and every listener who comes along for the ride.”
