Dobbo relishes new Ekka challenge

Last year Triple M Brisbane’s Ben ‘Dobbo’ Dobbin entered his chooks into the prestigious Poultry, Birds & Eggs Competition at the Ekka, finishing top of the pecking order by taking out first, second and third in his class.

Not content to rest on his laurels, Dobbo is entering the cut and thrust of the Ekka once again, this year with tomato relish with two jars of his ‘famous’ tomato relish into the ‘Preserves’ category and he says he’s feeling confident he can blitz the field two years in a row.

“The Preserves category at the Ekka is one of the most-respected competitions of the whole event and whilst I know the odds are stacked against me, I have no doubt I can win it. My tomato relish is made with love using a family recipe that has been passed down through several generations of the Dobbin family.”

He shared the secret recipe with RNA Executive chefs who have recreated the relish in bulk so that all attendees at this year’s Ekka will have the chance to add it to any burger bought at the Burger Royale stand.

Results of the competition will be announced on Ekka opening day this Friday and if Dobbo is victorious again he has no plans to rest on his laurels and will instead look towards making it a trifecta in 2020, “My dream would be to win the most prestigious and tightly-contested category of them all – the Fruit Cake competition.”
