Francis Leach was announced in the wee hours of this morning to be taking over ABC Overnights. Trevor Chappell retires from the program at the end of the month, but not until after a Night spent at the Museum with listeners.
Francis began his career on air at triple j, going on to sports journalism and work with Grandstand and on ABC TV’s Offsiders.
The last decade Francis spent in public policy and federal government roles. He said he is returning to his one true love – radio:
“I have had a lifelong love affair with radio and it’s wonderful to be given the opportunity to return to the microphone.
“The ABC Overnights audience is as passionate about radio as I am. It’s a community of great people from all walks of life and experiences, and I feel very privileged to be joining them each morning. Trevor has left an incredible legacy, and it’s my job to continue it in a manner that gives the audience the listening experience and connection with one another that he made his trademark.”

Trevor retires on Thursday July 30. Francis commences Overnights on Monday August 3, nationally on ABC Local Radio from 2:05am AEST, Monday to Thursday.
