Frontier Silicon upgrades Venice audio module

Frontier Silicon has launched an upgrade to its Venice 6.5 Wi-Fi connected audio module – to add multi-room audio synchronisation technology.

The company today announces that a majority of existing customers have signed up to take the over-the-air software upgrade, which turns Venice 6.5 based products already in the market into multi-room capable devices, which are able to interoperate freely with each other.

Over 750,000 units in the field, from 30+ different brands can all be upgraded to be discoverable via Frontier’s recently launched UNDOK iOS/Android apps. The upgraded units will be capable of forming synchronised groups and play music from various sources such as Spotify, Internet Radio, DLNA and aux inputs.  Additional music sources will be added in the next few months.

Frontier Silicon has created a Wireless Speaker toolkit for manufacturers seeking to develop multi-room systems.  This toolkit comes with a range of fully qualified reference designs optimised for different speaker categories, a customisable iOS / Android mobile app to aid with wireless set-up and multi-room configuration, and a flexible software development kit to allow custom features to be added to the product. Frontier has also lined up several partners to provide design-services to brands wishing to outsource development.

Venice 6.5 is a turnkey solution that also supports Apple AirPlay, DLNA, Bluetooth control, Internet radio and USB audio.

Prem Rajalingham, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Frontier Silicon, said: “Frontier Silicon’s mission is to provide turnkey solutions and engineering support which enable customers to develop world-class connected audio products – quickly, easily and reliably. Most multi-room products in the market today only work with products from the same brand, which limits the choices for end users. Frontier is driving to ensure inter-brand interoperability.”
