Hit96.9’s Josiah Shala sleeps on the streets of Shepparton

While co-host Elly Chaney is away, the Goulburn Valley’s Hit 96.9 Josiah Shala will spend the week on the streets as he raises awareness for homelessness in the community.

Shepparton has the highest homeless population in regional Victoria and by teaming up with BeyondHousing, Josiah is aiming to help break the stigma around the homeless in across the region and says “The fact Shepparton has the highest rate of homelessness in regional Victoria is incredibly sad – anything I can do to help raise awareness for this issue and change both the stat and people’s mindsets seems like a no brainer to me.”

BeyondHousing CEO, Celia Adams, who challenged Josiah to experience what being homeless in Shepparton is really like, detailed their commitment to ending the homelessness crisis in the Shepparton region. “We know that housing ends homelessness, it is the only way to make a significant difference to the outcomes for many people in our region.”

“Making our community more aware of this crisis and getting them involved, along with greater state and local government support, will be what helps us achieve our mission to end homelessness in Shepparton.”

Josiah will be spending the week couch surfing, spending the night in crisis accommodation, sleeping in a car and sleeping out on the street followed by a breakfast cook up for the homeless on Friday morning at a live outside broadcast.
