Matt Tilley knocked off his bike, taken to hospital

On Saturday, Fox FM breakfast presenter, Matt Tilley was knocked from him bike by a car in St Kilda and taken to hospital by ambulance suffering two fractured vertebrae and a fractured rib. He spent Saturday night at The Alfred Hospital and he is now at home recovering.

Austereo management has urged Matt to take as long as he needs to get back on his feet.

Matt’s a very keen cyclist having recently completed Day Around The Bay and also parts of the Tour de France course 2010.

Despite looking miserable for the cameras, Matt was in high spirits when he spoke to breakfast co-host Jo on air from his sick bed.

Matt: “I was riding along past the St Kilda Sea Baths obviously training for London 2012 and got knocked off my bike by a guy who swung across the bike lane… and just “smash”. And I sort of did the human tumbleweed along the road for a while.

Eventually I came to a stop and an ambulance came and I got the green whistle.

Jo: What was it like?

Matt: I don’t remember it. It’s like the 60’s. If you can remember it you weren’t really there.

Jo: So are you ok, are you still in hospital?

Matt: No, I’m at home. They did CT scans and have found two fractured vertebrae and a fractured rib….and a renal contusion which means my kidneys were a bit damaged.

So they transferred me to the Alfred Hospital and trauma section and it was there that they bought out Tottie Goldsmith’s beach bag and life took a lovely turn.
