Michael Rowland will depart the ABC at the end of this week, after 39 years with the broadcaster. As he said on LinkedIn:
“It’s time.”
Michael worked as a reporter and correspondent for 22 years before joining ABC News Breakfast in February 2010, where he was co-host for an additional 15. In 2025 he’s worked as a national affairs reporter for 7:30 and for The Radio National Hour, where last year a conversation about PSA, the test for prostate cancer which men in their 40s are now able to do, with Professor Damien Bolton went viral for all the best reasons.
A GP friend of the Professor was listening to the conversation and knew of both the hereditary elements, but not of the new age of accessibility for testing. The results of hearing the message are in the story below:
Michael Rowland, Professor Damien Bolton and a positive PSA for early PSA testing
This is not a retirement announcement for Michael. He said:
“I am now keen to move on to the next stage – and spend more time with family and friends.
I want to say a huge thank you to the ABC audience for watching, listening and reading over the years. Hopefully, I’ve left you all just a bit more informed from the thousands of stories I’ve reported and presented, and a bit brighter from my dubious gags on breakfast TV.
I’ve loved it all.”
