Mick Fanning: “I had a huge smile on my face”

Triple M Brisbane’s Marto and Ed Kavalee for breakfast spoke to Australian surfing champion Mick Fanning following his J-Bay Open victory.

Having survived a shark attack at last year’s event and taking time away from surfing, Fanning was asked about the large number of dolphins in the water and whether he was scared about making a return to the waves.

“No not really, as soon as you see dolphins you feel pretty safe, it was pretty amazing first thing before the event even started I paddled out and there was probably about 50 coming through the line up which was pretty amazing, I had a huge smile on my face and yeah it was a great way to start the day watching the sun come up over the hills and getting surrounded by dolphins, yeah it was awesome”, said Fanning
