Downloaded podcasts sourced from radio stations, newspapers and other media can be edited and the advertisements removed.
Typically a podcast downloaded for example from 2GB will have advertising at the start and end while podcasts will have advertisements throughout the podcast. Typically the advertisement is in the middle. The cue for an advertisement is either an announcement "...after the break we'll be talking about..." and/or a musical ID/jingle with the musical ID at the end of the break.
I cannot see how the sponsor can benefit from the removal of advertisements from a downloaded podcast. It's analagous to "zapping" an advertisement using the 'fast forward' button on the VHS tape or PVR.
Furthermore when watching VOD for example on YouTube, advertisements can be bypassed by paying a subscription to YouTube or installing an app on android called NewPipe or inserting addons in your pc's browser to stop advertising.
This results in the served advertisement not being viewed.
The only solution is for the VODcaster to incorporate advertisements within the content. But the advertisement within the content can be zapped with the fast forward button if the VODcast has been downloaded.
Overall an advertisement can be a waste of the sponsor's money if the advertisement can be edited or zapped or bypassed by a browser addin.
