Power FM Upper Hunter returns smiles to the children

Throughout the month of April, 981 Power FM in the Upper Hunter Valley has been collecting donations of Teddy Bears from local listeners.

The station’s aim was to collect enough Teddy Bears for every Police Car, every Ambulance and every Fire Engine throughout the whole Upper Hunter.

“Often when the emergency services go out to attend situations, there are children involved, We want enough Teddy Bears to take out to every situation to make the children feel a bit better,”  says Power FM’s Program Director Dayle “Richo” Richardson.

“We know a Teddy Bear won’t fix everything, but you’d be amazed how comforting a Teddy Bear can be to a child that is very scared.”

So 981 Power FM sent the message out across the airwaves, and the people of the Upper Hunter answered the call.

With hundreds of Teddy Bears being dropped off at various locations throughout the Upper Hunter, the response was more than the station could have ever expected.

Then it was time to deliver them.

Muswellbrook Local Police station became a sea of Teddys. Every colour and style you could imagine as Power delivered the Teddys to the emergency Services who said they will definitely be put to good use.

The Power Breakfast Team Sebba Claassen and Jade Leeder, along with a Minion and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle joined Police at the local area command to  go through all the wonderful donations.

“It was a fantastic effort by the whole team at Power FM, The Team at Singleton Nissan for supporting us,  Local Schools, Day Care Centres and everybody else who donated Teddys,” Power FM’s General Manager Joel Gosper said. “We are so proud to be a part of this worthwhile cause, and maybe bring some smiles back to the children.”
