Radio in the grip of Grand Final fever

AFL Grand Final weekend.

With the AFL Grand Final on tomorrow night, radio stations around Australia are gearing up for their coverage of one of this country’s biggest sporting events.

Below is a list of which stations are covering the game for avid AFL fans to listen to, and what some stations have been doing this week in celebration of the big game:

  • Regional Australia now has more access to radio coverage of the game via ABC radio national’s Grandstand program, also broadcasting on regional local stations. 
  • Several Melbourne stations are covering the game including SEN 1116.
  • Melbourne’s 3AW is heavily covering the Grand Final game with it’s expert coverage team including chief caller Brian Taylor, co-caller Dwayne Russell and premiership members, Leigh MatthewsMatthew Lloyd, Cameron LingTony Shaw and Chris Johnson. Guest during the 3AW coverage include Mike Sheahan and Caroline Wilson. As well as this, 3AW has a competiton for listeners to winhighly sought after Grand Final tickets in association with chief sponsor Toyota. During 3AW’s Football Preview from midday, fans need to make a Toyota sign relating to football with the Toyota logo on the sign and meet the team outside GATE 3 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground at 10am where a winner will be chosen.   • Nova 100 is hosting an AFL Grand Final party after the game in Melbourne’s Aer Bar. Nova announcers will be joined by international pop group Karmin, who will perform live, as well as AFL players Cale Hooker and Alex Rance. 
  • Independent Christian stations Light FM in Melbourne and Sonshine FM in Perth had a friendly competiton earlier today, which asked listeners to show their support for their respective team and try not to be convinced to move to the opposite state. 
  • The Triple M network will also be covering the game with commentators James Brayshaw, Garry Lyon, Danny Frawley, Luke Darcy, Damian BarrettAsh Chua, Mark Howard and Dr Rohan White. This comes after a big week of AFL Grand Final celebrations and a long day of coverage tomorrow. More information on this coverage is available here.
