Record prize boast

Gold Coast community station 94.1fm is claiming a record for a promotional prize with a $20,000 Toyota Yarris to be given to a Supporter in June.

Station CEO Gary Field says Southport Toyota dealer Grand Motors has weighed in with the car which will come with all on-road costs.

Grand Motors owners, Tim and Katherine Unwin have been enthusiastic supporters of the station since it opened almost three years ago, including providing a four wheel drive for outside broadcasts and promotions.
Mr Field said he could not find any other community station which had been able to offer such a high valued prize. It will be a new-style approach to the annual drive for supporters, replacing the traditional “radiothon” .
The Yarris will be the star attraction at a series of OBs at prime locations around the coast between the end of February and mid-June, culminating in a prize drawing at Grand Motors.
“Commercial stations often provide prizes like this but we believe it is a first for the community stations that usually have to rely on a ‘begathon’ to survive,” Mr Field said.
