We’re always happy to receive feedback on the DAB+ feature of the phone, which is the first of its kind in the world, and we will continue to update and improve the user experience based on consumer response. Excess data use remains a major area of concern for many consumers. Being able to listen without using data is the primary benefit of the DAB+ chip and is the reason CRA decided not to directly integrate station content through the phone’s interface. We believe consumers should have the choice of whether to use data or not when experiencing DAB+ - that’s why the station websites are just one click away.
Great write-up Trevor. I run 'Radioplayer', which is a non-profit radio industry collaboration that started in the UK, but is now spreading to other countries. We've also built an app that integrates with the DAB chip in this phone, but we've taken a slightly different approach. It's 'hybrid', switching between broadcast and mobile data automatically (as a hybrid car switches between its engines).
Here's a video of it in action. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this approach. http://youtu.be/wj_nMRe_LPc
