Communications Minister, Senator the Hon Mitch Fifield will speak in person at this year’s National Radio Conference in Melbourne.
Having just taken on the Communications and Arts portfolio last October at conference time, Minister Fifield sent a video message. He spoke about his love of radio and shared that he once considered a career in radio back when he was at university, possibly using the catchphrase “Switch to Mitch”.
Joan Warner, chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia said: “In the May budget the Minister announced a 25% cut in radio licence fees to reflect an increasingly convergent world and earlier this year, streamlined the digital radio planning and license process. We look forward to his presentation at this year’s National Radio Conference.”
Senator Fifield was sworn in as Senator for Victoria in the Australian Parliament on 1 April 2004 and re-elected at the 2007, 2013 and 2016 elections.
He was first appointed as the Minister for Communications and Minister for the Arts on 21 September 2015, and reappointed on 19 July 2016.
The Minister also serves as a member of the Prime Minister’s Leadership Group and the Senate leadership team, as Manager of Government Business in the Senate.
The National Radio Conference will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre on Friday, 7 October with more than 600 people attending from across Australia.
Further conference speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 28th annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards will follow on Saturday 8 October also at the Convention and Exhibition Centre.
