Vale Ron Josephs

Ron Josephs died on the weekend, aged 78. He had spent more than fifty years in radio, most of them in Broken Hill, NSW where he was still the Saturday morning presenter with the ABC.

Ron moved to Broken Hill in May 1970 starting his radio career with 2BH at its original Union Street site, before going to work in radio in Sunraysia. He joined ABC Broken Hill in 1996, presenting the Saturday breakfast show and a weekly Jukebox segment, amongst other programs.

He said when he marked 50 years in 2020 of his ongoing passion for radio:

“Loved music, communicating with people, people enjoying what you’re doing, thanking you for informing, interviews with people that are knowledgeable no matter what you’re talking about.

“It’s been a really wonderful career that I really have enjoyed thoroughly. I don’t think there was ever a down day.”

Anthony Gerace, ABC Broken Hill Managing Editor SA/NT/Broken Hill said of Josephs:

“He was hands down one of the slickest panel ops I’ve ever heard on radio and was always 100% reliable, dependable and loyal.”
