Hamish and Andy, again, sit atop the Triton Australian Podcast Ranker for December 2025 with their regular podcast and the two new episodes released that month getting 600K monthly listeners and the Plus + Christmas compilation of best bits (pictured) an additional near 200K.
December’s Ranker was affected by the awful events that occurred in Bondi with nearly half the top 20 news focused entries and Nine Audio creating a Terror at Bondi podcast which had more than 100,000 downloads.
The start of the Ashes saw associated podcasts surge, the highest being the The Grade Cricketer at No 5. Kyle and Jackie O were the highest radio catch up podcast, but down 10 places to 27. This will be the last time Life Uncut will appear under the ARN/iHeart representation after hosts Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne‘s radio show was dropped by the network. The podcast has been picked up by SCA’s LiSTNR. Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki, the duo are also on air with SCA, fell out of the top 10 to No 13. Vanished altogether are all Shameless Media podcasts. In the November ranker the group had four of their podcasts in the top 100, including Shameless at #4 and so this is another significant loss to the a true representation by the Ranker of what people are listening to. Shameless recorded more than half a million listeners in November.
A quarter (24) of the top 100 podcasts were from the ABC with the broadcaster having 54 in total in the top 300. The highest was ABC News Top Stories at No 3. The latest Unravel true crime podcast investigating the two campers who were allegedly murdered in Victoria’s High Country by pilot Greg Lynn jumped 83 places to No 17.
ABC Head of Audio on Demand, Jessica Radburn, said:
“This marks a record year for ABC listen and digital audio, capped by a strong December. Australians embraced the ABC for trusted breaking news, emergency broadcasting, live sport and binge-worthy podcasts, with Ashes coverage proving a major drawcard and delivering a soundtrack to summer for audiences nationwide.”
Commercial Radio & Audio (CRA), in partnership with Triton Digital releases the Australian Podcast Ranker monthly. The Ranker is the country’s only official, third-party verified podcast measurement system, governed by a cross-industry Steering Committee and backed by collaboration across commercial, independent, and non-commercial publishers.
Lizzie Young, CEO of CRA said:
“Podcast audiences are active, loyal, and commercially engaged. Whether they’re listening for leisure, planning purchases, or deepening knowledge, they’re listening with intent. The Ranker delivers the verified insights advertisers need to reach consumers who are ready to act.”
