It is both a boon and a bane the roster of sporting talent who work for Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) because they often get picked for next step professional roles that see them unable to continue their involvement with the network. Such is the case for former Australian Test captain and wicket keeper Tim Paine who has accepted a new role as head coach of Australia A. He said on the SEN Tassie breakfast show he co-hosts with Brent Costelloe (both pictured main – Tim left, Brent right) this morning:
“Next Friday (June 27) will be my last show. It’s time to spread my wings. I’ve been working with Australia A as an assistant coach and the opportunity has come up for me to be the head coach.
“I feel like it’s a hard balancing act to pursue a coaching career and talk in the media. The best way forward now is with one and the opportunity CA has given me to develop my coaching is a really good one.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the last few years. I want to thank our listeners. We feel like we’ve had fun building Tassie Brekkie and it’s been a pleasure.”
SEN CEO, Craig Hutchison, had nothing but best wishes for Paine:
“We congratulate Tim on his elevation to Australia A coach, where he’ll play a pivotal role in the next phase of Australian cricket success. Tim has been a key part in the initial success of SEN Tassie.
We look forward to announcing a new permanent co-host for Brent Costelloe – the state’s leading sports journalist and presenter – in due course, and building on the strong platform in breakfast laid by Tim and Brent over the past couple of years.”
Alongside the Australia A role Paine will also continue as coach of the Adelaide Strikers BBL team.
