This morning on Star 104.5’s Gina and Matty, actor, podcaster and smooth fm presenter Cameron Daddo (pictured) surprised listener and superfan Jenny, with a delayed but delightful reply to fan-mail invitation to her 13th birthday party.

Matt Baseley: Yesterday on the show Gina we had some fun on the phones, it started off with me telling the story about how I once wrote a letter to Katie Holmes, fan mail and didn’t get a response. Then we got this call from Jenny in Wyee.
Jenny (on yesterday’s show): I was 13 and I though I’d invite someone to my birthday party…Cameron Daddo and I got a reply, he said he’s sorry he couldn’t make it, by the time he got my letter, the party had already been.
Matt: Jenny is back on the line… I couldn’t stop thinking about you as a 13-year-old yesterday, inviting one of Australia’s biggest stars to your 13th Birthday Party, gosh it made me laugh Jenny.
Jenny: I would have invited him to my last one too, if my husband would let me.
Matt: It’s funny. You say that, Jenny, because Cameron Daddo and I have a mutual friend called Peter Clay, and I put in a call to Pete yesterday and said, hey, do you reckon Cameron might be up for a chat?
Cameron Daddo: Good morning, guys. Hi, Jenny! It’s been a long time!
Jenny: Hi…I feel like I’m 13 again!…
Matt: Cameron, did you get a lot of fan mail back in the day? I’d imagine, especially, you know, in those heady days of FX and Models Inc, you would have got quite a few letters coming your way.
Cam: It was and it was mail. This is pre email and I used to receive a sack of mail a week at Channel 10, when I was doing Perfect Match and my kids show Off The Dish, right?… Every single young female wanted to send those letters with their latest cheap perfume or whatever. Oh, my God I would just sit there in this cloud of fumes of cheap perfume respond to them because I loved what I was doing, and I loved the fact that they were watching. And so everyone got a response. That’s why it was late, Jen, because, you know, I had a few of them to get through.
Jenny: That’s alright, I forgive you!
Matt: What were you watching Cam on when you sent your fan mail?
Jenny: It was Off The Dish…but then funny enough, as you get older, and then you get to high school, while I was in year 10 I got to go do work experience. So I wrote in and I went to do work experience at Channel 10 for a Perfect Match!
