Tim Ross pays tribute to Jonesy and Amanda

This morning Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross, veteran of commercial radio in Australia, podcaster and with a new book out called What a Ripper! celebrating 60 everyday Australian iconic items, popped in for a chat with Jonesy and Amanda on GOLD101.7.

Aerogard – Guardian from the Aussie salute

After marveling at the value of Decor wine coolers (who knew?!) and hearing how Mortein poached the Aerogard recipe after seeing how it stopped the Queen, during a visit, from performing the Aussie salute, Tim stopped and got serious for a moment.

TIM ‘ROSSO’ ROSS: Can I say something? I’m sure the answer is yes, because I could be flogging my book.

But I did want to say that as a friend, as a colleague, and someone who was once a competitor with you guys. I’ve been thinking a lot today about your legacy as a breakfast show, while I was driving in listening to Fitzy & Wippa. I think it’s really important that you’ve understood what the privilege of waking up this city, and you’ve been incredibly important to so many of us. And we’re going to love you on drive, but we’re going to miss you and breakfast. And I think in terms of the history of FM breakfast shows, I think you’ll be the most loved and that’s the most important metric of them all. And I think it’s really important to say that because I think you guys are fantastic. And if there’s one thing that sort of sums up your relationship, and I think it’s it speaks a lot. And I don’t think everyone will listen to your show in the same way, but it’s the softness in the way that you say each other’s names. And I think there’s something incredibly beautiful about that.

AMANDA: Thank you, Tim, and we’ve loved doing breakfast and we could have, you know, we’re not the sort of people that want to smash up an alarm clock. We’re not those people. But we are excited about doing a drive show. But we’ve built I hope, a great relationship with our listeners for twenty years and we want everyone to come with us to drive, to listen in the morning, sure, and breakfast please. But please come with us to drive and thank you for your lovely words.

Jonesy goes on to tease Amanda for blubbing, Rosso calls them treasures and they all discuss a potential recreation of the famous Australian Ripper musical compilations of the 70s (see below) for Rosso’s next book.

Um…..nope.
