Nova Entertainment does a ‘Specsavers’

Nova Entertainment has done a clean up and overhaul of their social pages. Each of the metro stations, Nova 969 Sydney, Nova 100 Melbourne, Nova 93.9 Perth, Nova 106.9 Brisbane and Nova 919 Adelaide have removed any hint of the personalities on their station from their front images and banners (see below). Their breakfast, drive and late drive teams all run pages of their own.

However, the same is not true of a recent bus marketing campaign where apparently, thanks to the Game Changers Radio podcast, Nova breakfast teams are rotating in the wrong cities:

Haha! That’s Adelaide’s Jodie and Hayesy in Melbourne. Oopsie!

Or is it?

I was told very early in radio that you will rarely hear about what you do well, but make a mistake, the phones will light up. During the NSW New England floods of 2000/2001, and I very much don’t mean to make light of what was an incredibly challenging time, new to the region I learned street and town pronunciation from the phone calls I got every time I said the wrong one. I learned them FAST.

The same can be said for the cleverness of the recent Specsavers campaign where they terrified tourists with a Welcome to Melbourne sign in the baggage area of Sydney.

This is at Sydney airport!

When Ben, Liam and Belle were on Nova 100 breakfast, pre Jase and Lauren, they ran a very funny segment where they revealed the results of market research into what people thought the Melbourne team were called. Results ranged from Chrissie, Bronwyn & Sammy to a few I’d don’t know, sorry‘s.

This marketing of the wrong state’s team (but of course you can listen to them on the Nova Player app at any time), in the wrong city, reinforces the ‘hang on that’s not the Ash, Luttsy and Nikki I love!’ better than any sticker of Ash, Luttsy and Nikki (Nova 106.9 Brisbane and pictured main) might.

Adam Johnson, NOVA Entertainment’s Chief Growth Officer told Radioinfo:

“We’re not here to throw anybody under the bus, proverbially speaking of course. Nova has an amazing array of talent across Australia, all available to listen to on the Nova Player, so it’s not inconceivable that we would want to tell the whole country about them.”

That’s Gold (not the ARN variety but pun very much intended.)
