Olivia back at smooth

smoothfm has welcomed back Olivia Newton-John, four-time Grammy award winner, to its stellar weekend line up.

Olivia shared her excitement about returning to smoothfm, “I love being back on the air as a guest host with smoothfm – It’s not only a great way to share some of my favourite music and artists, but I’m grateful that smoothfm has been such a wonderful supporter of my Cancer, Wellness & Research Centre.”

Olivia Newton-John shot to international stardom after starring in the 1978 box office hit Grease which also saw her become the second woman to have two singles ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ and ‘Summer Nights’ in the Billboard Top 5 simultaneously.

After surviving her own battle with breast cancer, the English-Australian singer/songwriter became an advocate for breast cancer research among other health issues and in 2012, Olivia established the multimillion dollar Olivia Newton-John Cancer, Wellness & Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia.

To help raise vital funds for the institute, the annual Olivia Newton-John Gala will be held on 17 September at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. The star-studded event will be hosted by media personality Deborah Hutton and smoothfm presenter Richard Wilkins, with performances by Jimmy Barnes, Jon Stevens, Swing on This, Kinky Boots The Musical, Jason Heerah as well as Olivia herself.

In the lead up to the gala, Olivia will lead the Wellness Walk on 11 September which has attracted over 6,000 participants and raised more than $400,000 for cancer research and wellness supportive care programs over the last three years. The event this year will launch the Research Run led by Australian sporting legend and former Olympian Steve Moneghetti.

Peter Clay, smoothfm Program Director said: “Olivia Newton-John is a favourite with our listeners and remains as one of our most requested artists, so we love hearing her back on air on smoothfm.”

Olivia Newton-John can be heard on smoothfm 95.3 Sydney, smoothfm 91.5 Melbourne and on smoothfm DAB+ on Saturday afternoons from 4pm to 5pm.
