QC and radio station part company over four seconds of theme music

Top QC and The Sunday Times columnist Tom Percy has quit his regular and popular breakfast spot on 6PR, Perth (Australia) after learning his introductory theme song would be changed whether he liked it or not.

The well-recognised tune, which has been used for over a decade on the show, was taken from the satirical British TV series “Rumpole of the Bailey”.

Percy (pictured) Tweeted: “The truth is that I said the theme would remain or I would walk. And so I did”.

6PR content director John Solvander said the station would have preferred Percy remained with the show as “he’s been a tremendous contributor for a number of years.

“Last year we asked Tom to nominate a new intro for the segment, which he declined to do. As we explained to Tom, as part of our continual renewal and refreshing of the program, this year we decided not to have any theme for his segment. Tom insisted it stay or he’d leave, which he’s unfortunately chosen to do.”

News of the move has caused outrage among listeners, with some pledging to never listen to 6PR again.
