ABC Managing Director defends axing of 7:45am radio news bulletin

The Managing Director of the ABC said "something had to go", as the broadcaster tries to absorb $84 million of budget cuts.

David Anderson told Virginia Trioli axing the 15-minute 7:45am radio news bulletin would save close to $2 million dollars.

"We are shifting our investment towards on-demand news services," he said. "It is an incredibly difficult decision to make."

The end of the flagship radio bulletin was part of a number of changes announced yesterday, with 250 jobs expected to be cut from the organisation.
