The Australian’s ‘Strewth’ column lloks at the extra licence condition imposed on 2UE’s John Laws: "Strewth was eagerly listening to 2UE this morning for the latest round in the Golden Tonsils stoush with the Australian Broadcasting Authority.
Yesterday the regulator, headed by Alan Jones’s No. 1 fan David Flint, slapped an additional licence condition on the station – out of its own pocket, 2UE is required to engage the services of an independent monitor for two periods during the next year to ensure that John Laws discloses to listeners who his personal sponsors are. Tony Bell, managing director of 2UE’s Southern Cross Broadcasting, says the network will comply: "While John Laws has disclosed all sponsorship announcements, and while the station has gone to extraordinary lengths to make sure that the listeners know through additional announcements about John Laws’s sponsors, the ABA has found that that is not enough."
