Murri FM still going strong as community radio gets UNESCO backing on World Radio Day

Murri Country 4AAA broadcast for the first time on April 6, 1993, as the first Indigenous radio station in a major Australian city. The manager of the station now known as 98.9FM, Dan Rennie, said the political climate at the time of the launch meant Brisbane needed to confront its history with Aboriginal people, and radio was the best means to do so. This type of community advocacy will be celebrated across the globe on Saturday as part of UNESCO World Radio Day.
