Social media backlash forces hairy image change for 2UE breakfast duo

It seemed like a good idea at the time…

2UE’s ad agency thought they’d make a virtue of the ordinary looking talking bald heads of breakfast duo John Stanley and Garry Linnell by slapping their ugly mugs on the backs of Sydney buses along with some clever copy.

But, according to a 2UE insider who has asked not to be named, a backlash from both listeners and commuters has forced the station to replace the posters with better looking images, replete with hair,
The  insider told us, “We thought that because it’s radio, people wouldn’t care what they looked like. But we underestimated  the increasing role played by facebook and our website in the overall  listener experience.”

We are told that at one stage 2UE’s facebook page was getting so many “unlikes” that it was in danger of going into negative territory.

Sydney Buses also fielded a number of complaints from irate motorists who had to endure up to half an hour stuck in traffic behind a bus adorned with one of the original campaign posters (below).
T. Bigalow of Doonside wrote, “At first I thought it was the latest ad in the anti-smoking campaign. But then I realised it was much worse than that.”

The new 2UE ads were rushed through with hair being airbrushed onto the presenters’ bald heads. Management has yet to decide what to do for live appearances. Our insider says that they’re trying to have toupees made that look exactly like the photos. Failing that, they could wear a hat.
