Live streaming data for Nine Radio’s talk stations show the network achieved nearly 12 million streams in August.
According to the Triton Webcast figures, the talk radio network recorded 11.77 million streams, up 5% on July, while the total cumulative audience increased 15% to 1.9 million listeners.
Nine Radio’s Head of Digital Audio Hayley Bourne says, “2GB maintained its record audience numbers as the lockdown extended into August, while 3AW’s streaming jumped 12% and listeners spiked by 17% as Melbourne went into lockdown. It was pleasing to see similar increases for 4BC, while the introduction of mandatory log-ins had minimal impact on 6PR.”
“As Nine Radio deploys it’s digital audio strategy this listener data will be crucial to providing a premium user experience around content and commercialisation.”
“August also saw Nine Radio exit the TuneIn platform, and upgrade Apps for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, in line with our strategy to control our distribution and be available on every device.”

Great idea to invest in digital, but let's not be a scrooge just to save money on streaming and use crappy quality codec bitrates. Similar to how they try and pack so many radio stations on DAB+ encoded at 48Kbps HE-AAC and they think no one notices, but people do notice and HE-AAC even at 48Kbps sounds horrible and defeats the purpose of digital radio in the first place. In fact FM is better quality then DAB+ (go figure). So with the internet, the advantage, there's more lanes, so open this right up with higher bitrate codecs so that we can listen to these stations in proper quality audio without feeling like half our ears are chopped off.
