2KM reunion set for September

Ex-employees of Kempsey’s 2KM are getting set for a reunion of staff in September this year to mark the 82nd anniversary of the establishment of the station.

2KM covered the Kempsey, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie area from 1937 until 1980.

Organiser of the reunion, Ian Wright, says “I know I have a stack of mates from the ’60s-’70s era I’d love to catch up with, many I haven’t seen since I left the station in May 1972. The old building at 37 Elbow Street, West Kempsey still stands as the Local State MP’s office, as does the West Kempsey Hotel up on the corner at 43. In fact the pub’s been there since 1866.

“This project has been in the back of my mind for some time and I reckon now is the time to extract my digit and get things rolling.”

Ian, who joined 2KM as the rookie announcer/gopher in November 1971, straight after completing his Higher School Certificate ( Year 6) at Port Macquarie High School, has set up a Reunion Facebook page.
