2MBS FM appoints Peter Wall as GM

Former ABC and SBS Radio Executive, Peter Wall has been appointed the new General Manager of the 2MBS FM.

Wall, who was responsible for the rejuvenation of the ABC’s 2BL702 throughout the 90’s, said he is “delighted with the prospect of joining this unique group of over 200 volunteers and staff who are so passionate about their work. You can hear it every time you turn on 102.5 FM – they live and breathe their programs and have a knowledge base of fine music which is second to none.”

Fifty five year old Wall spent over 30 years at the ABC in various production and management positions and rose to the position of Manager of Local Radio in NSW, in charge of the eight stations that made up the network. He also spent the past three years at SBS radio as Station Manager in Sydney.

In addition he worked for two years at the BBC in London as a radio and music producer. He has won Australian and international awards for his work including a medal at the New York Radio Festival for 2BL 702’s coverage of the 1994 bushfires.

Wall has also enjoyed a career as a composer and music producer working with such stars as Ella Fitzgerald, Henry Mancini, The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Stephane Grappelli, Sarah Vaughan, Dudley Moore, Don Burrows, Tommy Emmanuel and James Morrison. He has co-composed many of Australia’s well-known television themes including ABC TV News, 10 News, Lateline, A Big Country, The 7.30 Report and Commonwealth Games music.

The Chairman of the Music Broadcasting Society of N.S.W, Mr. Ian Woodward told radioinfo: “2MBS is very excited that Peter has decided to join us. Peter’s broadcasting and management experience will assist us to grow and develop as Australia’s leading fine music station. 2MBS was the first FM station in Australia. It began broadcasting in 1974. It is the country’s largest classical, fine music public broadcaster. More
than 65,000 Sydney-siders tune into the station each week with its mix of
classical and jazz music.
