2MBS Radiothon

Australia’s first FM Classical Music Station, 2MBS 102.5, is staging a radiothon to try to attract new subscribers.

Lovers of classical, jazz, contemporary, folk and world music are invited to listen in over nine days from Saturday (18 September). New subscribers will have the chance to win one of many valuable prizes on offer including tickets to opera, theatre and ballet, as well as resort accommodation, restaurant and movie passes, and much more.

General Manager, Peter Wall, says 2MBS-FM is a non-profit community based organisation, meaning subscribers make a vital contribution to keeping the station on air.

“The station is operated by a handful of employees and a team of dedicated volunteers. We are on air 24 hours a day, seven days a week, playing a selection of classical, jazz, folk, world and contemporary music.

“2MBS-FM is one of the unique radio stations in the world. It was the first fine music station in this country and is a valuable part of Sydney’s cultural landscape. We also broadcast ‘live’ concert recordings of some of Australia’s most talented, established and emerging composers and performers. The station sponsors the popular annual Young Performers’ Awards.

“We’re looking to attract new subscribers during our radiothon when we make it particularly attractive to the thousands of people who listen to us regularly, but don’t subscribe.”

During the nine day radiothon, local personalities including Leo Schofield, Richard Tognetti, Lisa Forrest, Kamahl and Harry Seidler will be interviewed and share their favourite music with listeners.

2MBS turns 30 next year.
