2SER radiothon on in August

2SER 107.3 FM is holding its annual radiothon next week. The station celebrates 26 years on Sydney’s airwaves and has been through a rough time in the last few months after staff cuts, falling revenue and a major program review. It will be hoping to raise a good amount from the radiothon.

The station says it is “continuing to chart a course out
of the status quo with its innovative, diverse and alternative programming. Being an independent
community station, without government funding, 2SER relies on the financial support of its listeners to
keep on keeping on and is holding its annual Radiothon subscription drive from August 5 to 12.”

A survey done last year by McNair Ingenuity showed that more than seven million Australians aged
over 15 tune into community radio each month. Despite this the sector receives very little by way of
government and institutional funding.

Sydney is a notoriously difficult environment for community radio
to thrive in, with listeners not traditionally as supportive as in other cities.

“More than ever, 2SER needs
its listeners to support what we do by becoming financial supporters of the station,”
says 2SER.

Radiothon is the main event on 2SER’s fundraising calendar and follows the launch of its new
programming in May this year.

“The response to the new programming has been overwhelmingly
positive, with more listeners tuning in for the diversity and vitality of 2SER’s music and talks content.”

This year, 2SER is asking listeners (and businesses who benefit from promotion via the station all year
round) to ‘Come Around’ and play their part in keeping real radio alive by becoming a subscriber.

If listeners like what 2SER does they can show their support for the station for $55 a year, $33 concession, $110/$220 organisational & band/business membership of $550 for life.
