2UE breakfast presenter John Stanley has been crowned “Radio Commentator of the Year” at the prestigious Kennedy Awards for Excellence in NSW Journalism.
The award recognises Stanley’s outstanding contribution to radio as well as his move to Breakfast co-host this year alongside Garry Linnell in January. He also hosts Weekend Breakfast on Sydney’s 2UE.
Stanley was honoured to receive the award. “I work in a terrific industry with some very talented people and it’s such a privilege to be behind the microphone every day interacting with our audience. Being recognised by a panel of your peers is a terrific honour,” he said.
The Kennedy Awards recognise excellence in journalism in NSW. The ceremony was held on August 8.

Stanley has spent the past 35 years working in radio. He started off in country radio before joining the Canberra Press Gallery as a political reporter, covering the 1980 election. He then worked as the State political correspondent for 2GB, covering the corruption dramas on Macquarie St before heading back to the Canberra, working as Bureau Chief of the Macquarie Radio Network across Australia.
He joined 2UE in 1988 as Assistant Program Director and Producer of the Breakfast show. Over the past two decades Stanley has presented many shifts across 2UE including, Drive, Afternoons and Breakfast. He has also anchored 2UE’s State and Federal election night coverage since 1990.
This year marks John’s 25th year on the air at 2UE.
John Stanley lives in the Inner West with his musician and composer wife, Elissa Milne, and six-year-old son, Tom.
