3AW surprises Nightline audience

3AW’s Nightline program has welcomed a cameo of 12 different guest presenters who hosted with Philip Brady while co-host Bruce Mansfield took a well-deserved holiday.

The identity of each guest presenter was kept secret until introduced by Brady and kicked off on August 3rd with a trip back down memory lane.

From 1967 until 1970, long before Bruce and Phil hosted Nightline, there was an evening show called The Ray Lawrence Show. So after an absence of 45 years in the timeslot Ray came back to host Nightline.

The following night 3AW brought former national FM drive host Ant Simpson on board, who was virtually unknown to the Nightline audience but received excellent feedback.

The guest presenters continued with singer, comedienne and FM breakfast host Tracy Bartram, followed by radio veteran John Deeks who co-hosted on Thursday and anyone who tuned in would be forgiven for thinking he has always been there.

In week two, Herald Sun showbiz reporter Luke Dennehy joined the show, then Manni Pless-Bennett, a former radio contributor, real estate expert, advisor for a TV show and self-made success story. Some mid-week humour came in the form of Brian Mannix, front man for the Uncanny X-Men and then Wilbur Wilde, a long-standing Melbourne showbiz performer, musician, funny man and radio and TV presenter.

In the final week, outback legend Nick Le Soueff, who was a regular for many years on the Keith McGowan overnight program, joined Nightline.

Rockwiz Co-host Brian Nankervis followed, then 3AW legend Rex Hunt.

On the final night, Stefan Dennis, aka Paul Robinson from Neighbours, joined the show to reveal the man behind the character.

“We decided to surprise and delight our Nightline audience with a surprise guest presenter on every show and kept a secret until each personality was revealed on air by our own entertainment legend Phil Brady. It was a great way to showcase our commitment to innovation by our Nightline team, especially our very own station historian Simon Owens,” 3AW Operations Director Stephen Beers said.

“There were lots of stories, laughs and entertainment along the way and our audience feedback has been tremendous. Bruce Mansfield has many big shoes to fill when he returns!”

The Nightline program can be heard on 3AW from 8.00pm until 12.00am.
