Long serving 3AW presenter Darren James was notably absent from his breakfast shows this weekend. He shared with fill in host Glenn Manton that he was headed to hospital for double bypass surgery and heart valve repair.
The surgery that occurred last Tuesday August 12 had come about after a conversation at 3AW with Dr Ross Walker (listen above), who had encouraged Darren to visit his own doctor to get his calcium scores done. Results came back far higher than expected and later, blockages revealed.
Darren said that he had been feeling in peak health prior and was hopeful of positive post operative outcomes. He is expected to be off air for the next six weeks. Darren has been with 3AW since 1979.
This week also saw ABC Sport’s Andrew Moore hospitalised after a heart attack.
