Brisbane’s 4BC is no longer providing its own local news bulletins on weekends, with Nine Radio confirming that Saturday and Sunday’s breakfast news is now being networked from Sydney’s 2GB.
Last month saw weekend program changes at 4BC, with outdoors and lifestyle expert Paul Burt joining the station’s on-air line up, replacing Weekend Breakfast with Olympia Kwitowski.
4BC Station Manager Siobhain McDonnell said “4BC has been consolidating our on air product and are delighted with the early success and positive reception from listeners and industry alike for our new weekends show, Step Outside with Paul Burt. As part of the consolidation our quality news bulletins are now networked across the weekend.”
“As recently demonstrated in our 24 hour rolling news and programming coverage during Tropical Cyclone Alfred, the station is excelling in providing live and local content…..”
So when natural disaster occurs on weekends in Brisbane, the rolling news will coming from 2GB?
There may well be economic reasons for cutting news on weekends on 4BC.
Management’s response could have been rephrased truthfully without the euphamistic congratulatory message of past achievements while simultaneously cutting the services.
