6000 squares, 500 blankets in ABC Radio Tasmania’s Rug Up Tassie campaign

The Apple Isle community members have been knitting overtime as part of ABC Radio Tasmania’s Rug Up Tassie campaign. So far they have donated over 6000 acrylic wool squares, with the goal to create 500 blankets for those in need this winter.

936 ABC Radio Hobart Manager Samantha Stayner said:

“Rug Up Tassie is a beautiful expression of what a community can achieve when we all come together – it shows the power of many. We’re so proud of the way ABC Radio connects Tasmanians and grateful to the volunteers who knit, sort and join these squares. These blankets will bring such warmth and comfort to people doing it tough across Tasmania.”

Amelia Natoli of The Salvation Army Tasmania added:

“For someone doing it tough, receiving a hand knitted (or crotchet) blanket is more than just warmth, it’s a reminder that they are seen, valued and cared for by our community. The Salvation Army is so grateful to again be part of this wonderful initiative. These blankets are distributed to Tasmanians through a range of our programs, ensuring they reach people when and where they’re needed most. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the ABC for leading this initiative and to each individual that knitted, crocheted or joined the squares, thank you! Your generosity is making a real difference in Tasmanian’s lives.”

Blankets are distributed by Rug Up Tassie’s charity partners including The Salvation Army and Tassie Mums.
