In its 25th year the 92.7 MIX FM team have raised more than $552K for their annual Give Me 5 campaign. Seems appropriate to have so many fives in that incredible amount that goes towards supporting chronically ill children.

The campaign began in 1999 when MIX’s Breakfast Team Mark & Caroline found out that premature babies were being manually bagged on the Sunshine Coast into an ambulance to keep them alive during the trip to Brisbane. That first year they raised enough money to purchase 2 Transport Cots. A decade later they were able to replace the initial two with even better ones!

In 2001, MIX turned on the TVs in the Children’s Wards to make them free for every family. Later there were bigger things; The Full Monty, walking from Noosa to Caloundra with Wheelie Bins to fill with cash and they even broke a world record with the longest Mexican Waves. The first year MIX raised $60,000, then $7oK, then $80K and this time $552,918 in just one month! The people of the Sunshine Coast show up every single year.

“Do you know what the best thing about this money is? It tells parents of sick kids that we see them, we know they are there, we know they are in hospital and their kid matters to the Sunshine Coast – and that’s what we did this month. The money matters, but the thought means so much more.”
