98five’s Vote for Hope appeal

98five Sonshine FM’s June Appeal kicks off tomorrow aiming to raise funds to impact more WA lives for the better.

This year’s theme is ‘Vote for Hope’.

At a time when Australians are inundated with election promises, 98five has been campaigning throughout June to tackle today’s loneliness epidemic by getting out into the local community and have a greater reach into the lives of those West Australians feeling isolated.

Last Friday’s All You Can Greet Street Party, partnered with local Perth cafes joining the Station’s Pay It Forward Friday initiative is just one example of 98five putting their action plan into place.

98five believes they can go where others can’t — broadcasting straight into WA cars and homes.

As a listener-supported community radio station, 98five relies on the generosity of its listeners to continue to broadcast its positive message of hope.

And through listener-donations, having a greater reach into thousands of more cars and homes and having a positive impact on WA families and individuals is an election promise 98five believes they can keep.

Every year during June Appeal, 98five hears the stories of how the Station has helped make that impact.

“98five means a lot to me because about 15 years ago I was in a really bad place”, said long-time listener Shane during June, last year.

“My life was pretty painful and pretty dark. I ended up going to prison for a while and when I came out I had no hope. I was walking around late at night with the earphones in and I came across a song which I liked so I left it on that station and as the song finished it was 98five. I was crying and tears were running down my eyes and I found myself in the middle of this oval and I dropped to my knees and looked up and said ‘please, help me, help me’. 98five has played a pivotal role in my life.”

Vote for Hope June Appeal Week begins Friday, and will launch with ‘Drop It and Dance Friday’— where listeners are encouraged to drop whatever they’re doing when they hear Justin Timberlake’s new hit ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ and dance (listeners are also encouraged to send videos via social media of them joining the 98five family in #DropITandDance antics).

Friday is also ‘50k Friday’, an initiative encouraging listeners to donate and help 98five’s tally reach $50,000 by the end of Friday.

The public is able to watch the senate-seats-style tally fill up online at 98five.com, where viewers can also watch all of the studio action via the live webcams.
