A final year of AFTRS’ Pariya Taherzadeh Radio and Podcasting Scholarship

Applications for The Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) Graduate Diploma in Radio and Podcasting (commencing 2026) close next Tuesday, November 4. The school is also accepting applications for the 2026 Pariya Taherzadeh Radio and Podcasting Scholarship, a unique grant supporting emerging storytellers in Australia’s growing podcasting and radio sector, with this year the last time it will be offered.

Established by AFTRS alumna and global award-winning producer Pariya Taherzadeh, the scholarship has already supported two students to pursue their studies in the Graduate Diploma in Radio and Podcasting. Designed for those who have faced barriers to higher education, including individuals from refugee and culturally marginalised backgrounds, gender-diverse communities, people living with disability, or those experiencing financial hardship, the scholarship offers up to $20,000 to support tuition, relocation, and living costs.

This is the final year the scholarship will be offered through AFTRS.

Pariya said:

“Podcasting has the power to amplify voices of many like myself that rarely get heard in mainstream media. Through this scholarship, my goal was to create opportunities for diverse storytellers to take up space and shape the stories we hear in audio, regardless of whether it’s in radio or podcasting. I’m so proud of the recipients so far, and I’m excited to see how this last round will continue that legacy.”

Applications are now open and close on November 17 2025. Applicants are required to submit both a personal introduction and a short audio sample showcasing their storytelling voice.
